Abstract

How are the international dynamics arising from the recognition of the collective rights of “Indigenous peoples” (ILO Convention 169, United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples) changing the position of Indigenous peoples in the world system? Because of this situation resulting from global and political circumstances, anthropologists have had to adapt their approaches, their theoretical thinking and their working methods at a time when political authorities and the media continue to use obsolete categories of ethnology to regulate changes in the social, economic and political spheres brought about through Indigenous peoples’ struggles.
